[ abilities ]

Y'know, come to think of it, it might be a good thing that he's not really the type that's always rarin' for a fight - since when push comes to shove, he'd be quite a force to reckon with. His speed and stamina are all a few times better than that of your normal human, an advantage that's probably helped along a bit by the kitsune blood in his veins. A good long lifetime training with a sword doesn't hurt, either - though he rarely puts it to use, his skill with a katana is admirable, and the grace with which he handles the weapon is nothing to laugh at. And on top of this rather well-rounded package, there's always that little extra touch - he can summon low-level youkai to do his bidding. Not that it's a skill he uses often, as it's terribly draining after a while, and it's a bit of a hassle, and come on, these youkai are his friends, he doesn't like shoving them in a battle, but when the need arises, he can summon a variety of demons out of thin air - kappa, cat-demons and other such creatures of old mythology. So all in all, he's got the ability to pack quite a punch if he wanted to. It's just that he usually doesn't want to.

[ personality ]

Laid-back old guy. That's well, that's pretty much him, in a nutshell. He's pretty friendly, and he might be a little flitty - he's always wandering around all over the place, so you might see him one day and he'll be gone the next - but while he's around, he's plenty nice in that 'quirky uncle twice removed' sort of way. He cracks jokes, he'll smile and laugh and give you a thump on the back if you do a good job on something, and if you do something dumb, well, then he'll laugh at you a bit then help you out. He an all-around friendly sort of person - he's got lots of friends, and those youkai he summons are considered friends, too - as long as you don't mind how he'll probably be halfway across the city a week after you meet him.

And this friendship thing, it's important, because it's probably the only thing he'll fight for. Otherwise, Izuna is almost strictly anti-violence. It's not that he can't fight - hell, he can probably whoop your ass seven ways to Sunday and back if he puts his mind to it - but he highly dislikes fighting. Part of it's cowardice, as he'll freely admit; he doesn't like getting hurt, and the ever-present possibility of death in combat scares him. But it's slightly more than that - he doesn't like fighting because he doesn't like lending a hand in violence, he'd rather be a passive watcher. Because if he's not involved in a fight and happens to get hurt, oh well, that's life for you - but if you go ahead and jump in a battle and then get hurt, it's like you've just brought the trouble on yourself. And he really doesn't like the thought of having brough injury upon himself.

But given a dangerous enough situation, he can get pretty dangerous. Even when he fights, he'll probably be laughing a bit, trying to take the situation lightly, but his movements will probably be a bit sharper, a bit more earnest - because when he does fight, it's for the sake of friends, and friends are what matter most to him. Can't live in this world alone, right?

Anything else? Well, he likes fried tofu a lot (how typical of a kitsune), and likes singing to ease boredom, and like friends, and doesn't really like arguing with people, and doesn't like having to stay in one place for too long, and, well. That's about it.

[ history ]

→ Born. But the details of that aren't really important. Just that it was quite a while ago.
→ His parents were strong supporters of the Yurei, and when it turns out the Yurei's looking for people to experiment, they offered themselves up, the whole family.
→ And from a young age, little Izuna was sent to the labs and magicians and changed - a little tweaking here, a little shifting there, oh, hey, look.
→ By the age he knew what was going on, he'd already lost his identity as a 'human' - the process turned his hair white and granted him a pair of soft fox ears out the top of his head. Geez, he looked like a freak now. But then again, he couldn't remember any life before that. Parents? What parents? Surname? What surname? And wow, this magic. It was amazing.
→ And the Yurei people figured, hey, he's close enough to a success - let's put him to use - and as soon as he was old enough, they shoved a sword on him and put him under a teacher. Told him, "Learn." And though he didn't like it, not like he had a choice, huh? He said, "Okay."
→ And so that took up some time - he was a quick learner, though, didn't take that much time to grasp the ropes of handling the blade. And then Yurei folks thought, "this is great. This is perfect. Go defeat those Sphere soldiers for us!"
→ And he promptly ditched the fight after half a day. Just up and walked off the battlefield. Why? "I don't like fighting that much."
→ He's lost count of the years, but he's been wandering since then. Just like those ronin of old literature. It's a bit of a romantic concept, isn't it?
→ Present day.
